Mrs. Hollo Wniit. at Buhl, Idaho, and says that it is a great country up there for money making at farming, hut that for living h would take the Willam ette Valley. He said: "Wright hiw acres of alfalfa, and on this ha will harvest 150 tons of fodder, besides alfording much pasturage for 11 head of cattle and three or four head of horses. There is but little dairying up there as there is more money in raising alfalfa at $8 in the ton, in the stack. W. Reder, Presi dent Joseph Hurley, or the News-rimes, and a copy will be given you. With the special prizes to be ottered this year there is a grand total of $2,200 offered in the various depart ments of the fair, and nearly every product of the county and state has been ptovided for. Get a list, study it over, and decide now to go in and get some of the prize money. In addition to the prizes listed in the premium list there will be nearly $600 worth of special prizes, made up of money and merchandise. This list of special prizes will be issued later. J. F. Forbja. the public spirited citi zen who owns the fine place southwest of the cjty, has do nated $50 in cash to be used for special prizes. The Orenco Nur sery Co. has donated $10 worth of nursery stock for suecial prizes, while the business men of Forest Grove and Portland have donated hundreds of dollars in lesser amounts for special prizes for the evunta to be held during the four days of the fair. Tliis entire amount will be U9ed not only for products, live stock, etc , but will be used for sport and contests of all kinds. A unique and interesting contest is bejng arranged between the fire departments of the county, and already much enthusiasm has been aroused In the various cities. It is anticipated that "stunts" by the fire laddies will be the leading feature of the speuial attractions. The new grounds, as planned, will ha e all the space heretofore used, and coupled with the ath letic field and track, will make an ideal setting. Ample stock sheds will be provided for. On the old ground there was some 420 feet, On the new grounds there will be 600 feet and more if needed. Space for oter ex hibits will be ample, and then in addition there will be the fine, cool grove surrounding the Uni versity that may be used by the visitors for a resting place. We want to call particular at tention to the School Depart ment of the County Fair. This will include all the features gjven jn thjs department last year, including a total of $270 for oooth displays and for the big parade features. In addition to these will be a fine line of of prizes for the sports and games on school day. Remember the Fair will be held in the city of Forest Grove this year, on Wednesday, Thurs day, Friday and Saturday. Sept. 20 to 23 inclusive, and that there will be something doing every day, watch for the program and announcements of special events. Gov. Withycombe and a large number of Portland busi ness men have promised to come and help us get started on open ing day. Will you help the men who are helping Washington County by holding this fair, by making an exhibit of your farm products, and when you do that then come in and see what your neighbor has sent in. Secretary. O.ALES CREEK OUTING A merry crowd from Portland and Hillsboro enjoyed a picnic at Rippling Waters, near the Frent-zel-Long camp, at the "Crows' Nest," last Sunday. The day was spent in lunching, games and bathing, and the return was made late in the evening, Some of the Portland people were en joying their first trip in Wash ington County, and were much impressed by the beauties of the county. Biersdorf's Grove. in the morning, at 10:30. the Kev. Mr. Kiel, from Vancouver. will speak to the assemblage on the Mission work of our church. according to the Text, Acts e6.9; and in the afternoon, at 2:30, the Kev. Mr. Ebeling, from Portland, will address the con gregotion on the same subject basing his discourse upon the Gospel lesson of the Ueafmute. Both services will be conducted in the German language. Many of the neighboring Lutheran congregations have been invited and will attend. Because of the Mission-Festi val at Schefflin, the German Lu theran services at Hillsboro will be dropped, for this Sunday, and Lutherans of Hillsboro will at tend the services at Schefflin.
